Begining with a New Lexicon

The words you use create the reality you choose to live in.

In previous articles I have talked about the powerful aspects of language and how it can empower you and your life. This topic is always worth revisiting. What a simple, inexpensive, New Year's Resolution... create a new more powerful way of speaking.

Dr. Anne Foerst, a theologian and research at the MIT Artificial Intelligence Laboratory has suggested that the unique quality of being human is that humans make stories to express their reality. No other animal does that.

Words themselves have no meaning. We give them meaning by unconsciously assigning a energetic signature in our nervous system. It is this electronic signature that we respond to. Not the word itself. While we as a group of people have come to generally agree on what a particular word means, that meaning changes over time or when we move into a different group of people.

To oversimplify... words are simply an auditory expression of an energy you experience in your nervous system (mind/body).

It is easy to assume that if words create a certain kind of energy within you, then doesn't it make sense to choose, and use, words that create an energy of empowerment?

Okay... so what do you do to empower your language and your life? Begin now to consciously change your language. You can express "a problem" and do so in a more empowering way.

"I'm exhausted" becomes "I'm not full of energy"
"I'm broke" becomes "I'll have much more money next week"
"The traffic was horrendous" becomes "There was an abundance of cars on the road"

You get the idea. The simple way to do this is to just negate the positive. If "good" is the opposite of "bad" then "The movie was bad" becomes "The movie was not good".

This little shift in language will create a noticeable difference to you and others. Give it a try. Oh, and get a copy of Yvonne's book (see the sidebar on the left).

BE Amazing!
